The following definitions define the fields in Delay Propagation reports:

  • Count of Stages. The count of sections in a multi-staged flight flown by the same aircraft. There needs to be at least two flights for propagation to exist.
  • Scheduled Block Time. The difference between scheduled gate-in and gate-out times (minutes).
  • Actual Block Time. The time elapsed from gate-out to gate-in times (minutes).
  • Scheduled Turn Time. The time between scheduled gate-in and scheduled gate-out times (minutes).
  • Actual Turn Time. The time that an aircraft spends between gate in and gate out (minutes).
  • Gate Departure Delay. The difference between the actual and the scheduled gate-out times (minutes).
  • Gate Arrival Delay. The difference between the actual and the scheduled gate-in times (minutes).
  • Propagated Delay. A flight that meets the following conditions: It arrives late at an airport; it departs late from that airport; it arrives late in the next stage. Propagated delay is measured in minutes.
  • New Delay. The difference between the gate arrival delay and the gate departure delay plus the turn time delay compared to schedule (minutes).
  • Multiplier. The ratio of the gate arrival delay to the propagated delay.
  • Accelerator. The ratio of the propagated delay at t +1 divided by the propagate delay at t – 1. The accelerator measure whether delay propagation increases or decreases its momentum.
  • ASQP Delay Cause. Reporting airlines classify delays into five categories specified in the Technical Reporting Directive (Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations, Part 234, Technical Directive #12): late arriving aircraft, carrier, NAS, security, and extreme weather.
  • Taxi-Out Delay. Actual Taxi-Out Time minus Unimpeded Taxi-Out Time (minutes).
  • Airborne Delay. Actual Airborne Time minus Carrier Submitted Time Enroute (minutes).
  • Taxi-In Delay. Actual Taxi-In Time minus Unimpeded Taxi-In Time (minutes).
  • Gate Delay. Actual Gate Departure Time minus Scheduled Departure Time (minutes).
